I have been continuing to go through the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This week, we went over habit 2, which is to begin with the end in mind. There is an interesting quote from the author where he states, “It’s incredibly easy to get caught up in an activity trap, in the busyness of life, to work harder and harder at climbing the ladder of success, only to discover it’s leaning against the wrong wall.” It’s so important to know your goals so that your actions align with who you are striving to become.
The first step to scripting your life for what you want to be remembered for is to identify your center. Your center gives you security, guidance, wisdom, and power, and it should motivate your daily decisions. According to Covey, placing principles focus on our center will help us achieve happiness, and we can do this by making a mission statement. A personal mission statement can be treated as a philosophy or creed to live by. It should be based on your personal values or principles and should include character traits you want to be remembered for, contributions you want to make, and achievements you hope to accomplish.
My mission statement is to live a life rooted in faith, guided by intention, and shaped by love. I strive to act with discipline, gratitude, and compassion, treating others with respect and patience while courageously using my creativity and humor to bring light, kindness, and purpose into the world.
