Night Watch Volunteering

For my Civic Duty Volunteering, I fed families through Night Watch, which is a ministry of local churches that takes turns fighting hunger in our community. It was a very fulfilling experience that created an impact on both the community and me. The mission statement of Night Watch is to offer hope where people live. They do this by bringing food to communities where they are. My church youth group met at a school parking lot, where we made the chili dogs while people lined up, so they would be fresh and warm. We served over 160 meals. After we finished serving the meals, a few of us brought the van back to the church, where we cleaned it and washed all the dishes. I really enjoyed this experience. Not only did it give me a sense of purpose, but it also brought me closer to the people in my youth. I built stronger relationships while helping the community at the same time. Everyone was so grateful to us, and we were having a great time serving them. It helped me to understand how volunteering can truly improve your mental health. It is very encouraging to be in an environment of people who are willing to help with a sincere heart.
