Whenever I am overwhelmed with the number of options of a particular item that I am shopping for, I find myself naturally drawn to the product with the brightest, most eye-catching packaging. Packaging plays a powerful role in influencing purchasing decisions. If the design stands out, it’s far more likely to capture the attention of consumers.
A great example of packaging that stands out is cereal boxes. These are typically targeted toward children, and their bright colors, and fun characters are designed to appeal directly to that audience. Even as an adult, I still find myself being drawn to the lively and colorful designs. This highlights how impactful packaging can be.
As a designer, it’s important to understand the influence of packaging. A well-designed package doesn’t just effectively hold a product, but also communicates a message and can even create an emotional response. A product with engaging visual elements will have a greater influence and generate an overall greater reach.
